The best 9 Days Lemosho–Shira Route Kilimanjaro Climbing 2025/2026

The Lemosho-Shira route begins on Kilimanjaro’s Western Site. It is almost identical to the Lemosho route. However, on the first day, you ascend to the second camp using the Lemosho route. Only after that do the two routes correspond.

Day 1: Arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be greeted by your Summerwinter Adventures guide. You’ll be transferred to your hotel in Moshi for an overnight stay, where you can rest and prepare for your trek.

Preparation for the Climb
Meet with your guide for a briefing on the climb. You’ll be given helpful advice about what to bring and how to prepare for your adventure.

Day 2: Londorossi Gate to Mti Mkubwa Camp

The adventure begins at Londorossi Gate (2,100m / 6,890ft), where you’ll register for the climb. From here, you will head to the trailhead and begin your ascent through the lush rainforests. Today’s hike will take you to Mti Mkubwa Camp (2,750m / 9,022ft), where you will enjoy your first night on the mountain.

Day 3: Mti Mkubwa Camp to Shira 1 Camp

Today’s trek will take you through the moorland zone as you ascend to Shira 1 Camp (3,610m / 11,847ft). As you hike, you will witness beautiful views of Mount Kilimanjaro and the surrounding landscapes. Your overnight stay will be at Shira 1 Camp, where you can enjoy the stunning views of the summit.

Day 4: Shira 1 Camp to Shira 2 Camp

On Day 3, you will continue your trek through the Shira Plateau to Shira 2 Camp (3,850m / 12,631ft). This part of the trek will offer magnificent views of the mountain and surrounding wilderness. It is a relatively short and gentle hike, allowing you to acclimatize properly.

Day 5: Shira 2 Camp to Lava Tower to Barranco Camp

From Shira 2 Camp (3,850m), you will trek to Lava Tower (4,630m / 15,190ft) for acclimatization. After spending some time at Lava Tower, you will descend to Barranco Camp (3,960m / 12,992ft). This day’s hike helps your body adjust to the higher altitudes while providing spectacular views of the mountain and surrounding area.

Day 6: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

On Day 5, you will tackle the Barranco Wall, a famous section of the climb that requires some scrambling. After overcoming the wall, you’ll head to Karanga Camp (4,035m / 13,238ft). This camp offers stunning views of the surrounding terrain and is an excellent spot for acclimatization.

Day 7: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

Today, you will trek from Karanga Camp (4,035m) to Barafu Camp (4,640m / 15,223ft). The terrain is rugged, but the views are incredible as you ascend higher on the mountain. Barafu Camp is your base for the final push to the summit.

Day 8: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp

This is the most challenging and exciting day of your trek! You will depart from Barafu Camp around midnight and make your way to Uhuru Peak (5,895m / 19,341ft). The climb will take several hours, and you’ll be rewarded with a breathtaking sunrise at the summit. After celebrating your success, you will descend to Mweka Camp (3,100m / 10,171ft) for a well-deserved rest.

Day 9: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate and Departure

On the final day, you’ll descend from Mweka Camp (3,100m) to Mweka Gate (1,640m / 5,381ft). This trek will take you through the rainforest, offering great views of the lush vegetation. Once you reach Mweka Gate, you’ll receive your certificate of achievement. You will be transferred back to your hotel for a hot shower and a celebratory dinner.

End of Tour

After completing the trek, you will be transferred to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your departure flight or additional travel arrangements.
