Day 1: Touchdown in Nairobi
- Arrival: Land at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO). Your driver meets you at arrivals.
- Afternoon: Check into your hotel. If your arrival lines up with an AFCON match day, Nairobi will already be buzzing. Head to a local sports bar or fan zone to catch the vibe with Kenyan supporters.
- Dinner: Casual welcome dinner at a spot like Talisman in Karen or Carnivore if you want the classic, lively meat-and-music experience.
- Sleep: Nairobi (e.g., Hemingways, Ole Sereni, or a solid boutique guesthouse).
Day 2: City Wildlife & Fly to Tanzania
- Morning (7:00 AM): Quick game drive in Nairobi National Park. It’s the only park in the world inside a major city. You’ll see rhinos, lions, and giraffes with the city skyline in the background.
- Late Morning: Visit the David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage (strict 11:00 AM–12:00 PM visiting window).
- Afternoon: Transfer to Wilson Airport for a short scheduled flight to Arusha (Kilimanjaro International Airport).
- Evening: Settle into your Arusha hotel. Briefing with your safari guide for the days ahead.
- Sleep: Arusha (e.g., Arusha Coffee Lodge or Mount Meru Hotel).
Day 3: Tarangire National Park
- Morning: Drive south to Tarangire (about 2 hours).
- The Safari: This park is defined by massive baobab trees and the highest concentration of elephants in Tanzania. The dry riverbeds are magnets for wildlife. You’ll likely see large herds of elephants, zebra, and the occasional tree-climbing python.
- Lunch: Picnic boxed lunch at a scenic viewpoint inside the park.
- Sleep: Tarangire (e.g., Sopa Lodge or a well-located tented camp).
Day 4: Into the Serengeti
- Morning: Drive northwest into the Serengeti. The landscape shifts to open, rolling plains.
- Afternoon: Game drive in the Central Serengeti (Seronera area). This is the most reliable year-round zone for spotting big cats, especially leopards resting in the sausage trees and cheetahs scanning the grass.
- Evening: Sundowners (drinks and snacks) at a scenic overlook before heading to camp.
- Sleep: Central Serengeti (e.g., Kati Kati Tented Camp or Serengeti Serena).
Day 5: Serengeti to Ngorongoro Crater
- Morning: Early start. One last game drive on the plains, watching the morning hunt.
- Midday: Drive east toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. You’ll pass through Maasai villages; you can stop for a quick, respectful cultural visit if you choose.
- Afternoon: Arrive at the crater rim. The views from the lodge overlooks are usually clear in the afternoon. Relax and reset.
- Sleep: Ngorongoro Crater Rim (e.g., Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge or Rhino Lodge).
Day 6: The Crater Floor & Return to Arusha
- Morning (6:30 AM): Early descent into the Ngorongoro Crater. This is a self-contained ecosystem and your best chance to see the endangered Black Rhino. The density of animals here is staggering.
- Late Morning: Drive back up the crater wall and head east, returning to Arusha by late afternoon.
- Evening: Free time in Arusha. Grab a good pizza at Via Via or a local Tanzanian meal.
- Sleep: Arusha.
Day 7: Fly Back to Nairobi for AFCON Action
- Morning: Depending on your flight schedule, you can do some last-minute souvenir shopping at the Maasai Market in Arusha.
- Afternoon: Short flight from Arusha/Kilimanjaro back to Nairobi.
- Evening: This is your dedicated AFCON night. Check the tournament schedule. Whether it’s a group stage match or a knockout game at a Nairobi stadium or official fan park, the energy will be high. Eat, celebrate, and soak in the continental football culture.
- Sleep: Nairobi.
Day 8: Departure
- Morning: Leisurely breakfast.
- Transfer: Head to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO) for your flight home. If you have a late flight, a quick stop at the Giraffe Centre is an easy way to kill a couple of hours.
The Practical Stuff (Read This)
Logistics & Transport
Do not attempt to drive from the Serengeti to Nairobi by road on an 8-day trip. It takes 8 to 10 hours and eats up an entire day. The regional flights (Airkenya, SafariLink, or Coastal Aviation) cost a bit more but are absolutely worth it for the time saved.

Visas
Both Kenya and Tanzania require visas. Kenya now uses an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) system, while Tanzania uses a standard e-Visa. Apply for both at least 3–4 weeks before you fly. Do not wait until the airport.

AFCON 2027 Reality Check
Match schedules will be released closer to the tournament. If you want guaranteed tickets to specific games, you need to work with a registered tour operator who can bundle match tickets with your safari package. General fan zones, however, are open to the public and require no special tickets.

What to Pack
- Neutral colors (khaki, olive, brown). Leave the bright white or neon gear at home; it scares the animals and shows dust instantly.
- A good pair of binoculars. Do not rely on your phone camera to see a leopard in a tree.
- Layers. Morning game drives at 6:30 AM in the crater or Serengeti are genuinely cold (around 10°C / 50°F), but it will be hot by 11:00 AM.
AFCON 8-Day Safari Budgeting for Extras
Your base package usually covers lodging, transport, park fees, and meals. You will need cash (USD bills printed after 2013, crisp and unmarked) for tipping your guide, buying drinks at the lodges, and purchasing crafts at the markets.
If you want to adjust this to focus more heavily on the football side (e.g., adding a day in Dar es Salaam if matches are played there) or stretch the wildlife time, let me know. We can shift the balance depending on what matters most to you.
