AFCON 5-Day Safari: The Complete Tanzania and Kenya Experience (2027)
AFCON 2027 offers a chance to combine African football with a short wildlife safari in East Africa. This five-day itinerary brings together time in Kenya to enjoy the tournament atmosphere and a safari in northern Tanzania, where elephants, baobab trees and open savannah are part of the landscape.
The route is designed for travellers who want to attend an AFCON match without spending their entire holiday around football. It includes time in Nairobi, a flight to Tanzania and a safari in Tarangire National Park.
AFCON 2027 is scheduled for 19 June to 17 July 2027 in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. The final match schedule and venue assignments should be checked before confirming travel arrangements.

AFCON 5-Day Safari overview
Duration: 5 days / 4 nights
Countries: Kenya and Tanzania
Football experience: AFCON match in Kenya, subject to confirmed fixtures and tickets
Safari destination: Tarangire National Park, Tanzania
Pace: Moderate, with one international border crossing by air
Transport: Private transfers and safari vehicle in Tanzania, plus a scheduled flight between Kenya and Tanzania
Day 1: Arrival in Nairobi, Kenya
Arrive at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi, where a local representative will meet you and arrange your transfer to the hotel. After check-in, take some time to rest following your journey.
Depending on your arrival time, you can explore part of the city, visit a local market or relax at the hotel. During the AFCON period, the city is expected to attract football supporters from across Africa, although individual events and fan zones will depend on the official programme.
Your guide can help you prepare for the following day’s match, including transport arrangements and the stadium entry requirements.
Overnight: Nairobi.
Meals: Depending on your arrival time and hotel package.
Day 2: AFCON match day in Nairobi
The day is reserved mainly for football. Enjoy the atmosphere around the stadium, join fellow supporters and watch the match live with thousands of other fans. Match pairings will depend on the official tournament draw and schedule, so this itinerary does not promise a particular team or fixture.
Allow plenty of time for security checks and entry procedures. Stadium traffic can be heavy on match days, and local access restrictions may affect transfer times.
After the match, return to your hotel. The evening is free for dinner and rest before travelling to Tanzania the next morning.
Overnight: Nairobi.
Meals: Breakfast.
Important: AFCON match tickets should be secured through the official sales channels once available. Ticket availability is not guaranteed by the itinerary.
Day 3: Fly to Tanzania and enjoy an afternoon safari in Tarangire National Park
After an early breakfast, transfer to the airport for your flight from Nairobi to Kilimanjaro International Airport in Tanzania. On arrival, meet your Tanzanian safari guide and continue by road towards Tarangire National Park.
The road journey takes several hours, depending on the airport arrival time, traffic and the route taken. An early flight is important to give you enough time for a park visit on the same day.
After reaching Tarangire, begin your afternoon game drive. The park is known for its large elephant herds, old baobab trees and wildlife that gathers around the Tarangire River, particularly during the dry season. Depending on the season and conditions, you may also see giraffes, zebras, wildebeest, buffalo and different antelope species.
Your guide will follow suitable park routes and look for wildlife without rushing the drive. As animals move freely, sightings cannot be guaranteed.
In the late afternoon, leave the park and transfer to your lodge or tented camp for dinner and an overnight stay.
Overnight: Tarangire or the surrounding area.
Meals: Breakfast, lunch and dinner, according to the selected package.
Day 4: Full-day safari in Tarangire National Park
Today is dedicated to exploring Tarangire National Park in more detail. After an early breakfast, set out with your guide for a full-day game drive.
Early morning is a good time to look for wildlife as animals begin moving through the park in search of food and water. Depending on conditions, you may spot elephants travelling in family groups, giraffes feeding on trees, zebras grazing in open areas and predators moving through suitable habitats.
Tarangire’s scenery changes between river valleys, open grassland, woodland and areas dotted with baobab trees. Your guide will choose the day’s route according to recent sightings, road conditions and the time available.
A picnic lunch will be served at a designated site in the park. After lunch, continue exploring different areas before leaving the park later in the afternoon.
Return to your accommodation to relax after the drive. The evening can be spent enjoying dinner and preparing for the journey to the airport the next day.
Overnight: Tarangire or the surrounding area.
Meals: Breakfast, picnic lunch and dinner, according to the selected package.
Day 5: Transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport and departure
After breakfast, begin the road transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your onward flight.
The journey from the Tarangire area takes several hours, so departure should be arranged around your flight time with a suitable buffer for road delays and airport check-in. A late departure from Tanzania is preferable to a tight connection.
This marks the end of your five-day AFCON and Tanzania safari experience, combining football in Kenya with wildlife viewing in one of Tanzania’s best-known national parks.
Meals: Breakfast.
Departure: Kilimanjaro International Airport, Tanzania.

AFCON 5-Day Safari Important travel arrangements for 2027
This itinerary is built around a Nairobi match day and a northern Tanzania safari. It should be finalised once the AFCON fixture list, stadium allocation and ticketing arrangements are confirmed. If the selected match is assigned to another host city, the route and flight arrangements will need to be revised.
Travellers should also check the entry requirements for both Kenya and Tanzania before departure. Since this itinerary ends in Tanzania, international flights should ideally be booked as a multi-city journey: arrive in Nairobi and depart from Kilimanjaro International Airport.
The result is a compact five-day trip for football supporters who also want time in the African bush. It is best suited to travellers who are comfortable with an early flight, a road transfer into the safari area and a focused wildlife experience rather than a longer circuit covering several national parks.
